Buford is a city in Hall and Gwinnett counties Georgia, United States. According to the 2010 census, the city has a population of 12,225. Most of Buford City is in Gwinnett County. The development of the city can be traced back in early 19th century. After the civil war, Thomas Garner and Larkin Smith purchased land and started developing Buford city. In the early 1900s, the city became widely known for leather production. The production of leather products in the town led to its growth. The city covers a total area of 44.1 km².
In 2008, Buford was ranked 3rd by CNN Money in its annual "100 best places to live and start a business" list. In the early 1900s, Buford economy was largely centered on the leather industry and its location as a railway stop. However, with the diversification of transport and decline in demand of leather products, these industries are no longer viable in Buford’s economy. The city is home to the largest mall in Georgina; the Mall of Georgina. This mall is also ranked 36th largest in United States and houses over 200 stores. The city also has several walking trails and recreational parks.
